Medical Weight Loss FAQ

63 answers to real questions about TrimDoc telehealth medical weight loss — eligibility, safety, appointments, pricing, billing, membership, prescriptions, and more. This is educational information, not medical advice.

General

What is TrimDoc?

TrimDoc is a physician-supervised telehealth practice offering medical weight loss, menopause care, and hormone health services, delivered entirely through virtual visits with licensed providers.

How is TrimDoc different from an in-person weight loss clinic?

The clinical evaluation, ongoing follow-up, and provider relationship work the same way as in-person care, but every visit happens by video instead of in an office. TrimDoc does not operate a physical walk-in clinic.

Do I need a referral to book a consultation?

No. You can book a consultation directly through Vagaro without a referral from another doctor.

What conditions does TrimDoc treat?

TrimDoc offers three service lines: medical weight loss, menopause care, and hormone health. Your provider determines which, if any, apply to you during your consultation.

Eligibility

Who might be a candidate for medical weight loss treatment?

A consultation may be appropriate for adults interested in a physician-supervised approach to weight management. Whether a specific treatment is clinically appropriate is determined by a licensed provider during your evaluation, not by a self-assessment. See Medical Weight Loss for the full overview.

Is there an age requirement?

TrimDoc's telehealth services are intended for adults. Your provider will confirm eligibility factors, including age, during your evaluation.

What happens if I’m not a candidate for medication?

If your provider determines that GLP-1 medication is not appropriate for you, they will discuss that with you directly and explain their clinical reasoning. Booking a consultation is a request for evaluation, not a guarantee of any specific treatment.

Can I book if I’ve tried GLP-1 medication before?

Yes. Tell your provider about any prior GLP-1 medication use, including what you took, how you responded, and any side effects — this history is part of your evaluation.

Does eligibility differ between semaglutide and tirzepatide?

The core eligibility factors are similar for both medications, though your provider will also consider prior treatment response when deciding between them. See Semaglutide and Tirzepatide.

Safety

Is telehealth weight loss treatment safe?

TrimDoc care is provided by licensed medical providers who evaluate your health history before recommending any treatment, and telehealth has inherent limitations — your provider will advise you if your condition requires in-person evaluation instead. See the full Medical Disclaimer.

What safety monitoring does TrimDoc provide?

Ongoing care typically includes periodic follow-up visits so your provider can monitor your response, review side effects, and adjust your plan as needed.

Who should avoid GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 medications are not recommended for anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2). Your provider will also ask about pregnancy, breastfeeding, pancreatitis history, and other conditions.

What should I do if I have a bad reaction to my medication?

Contact your TrimDoc care team, especially for anything severe or persistent. Do not stop or adjust your medication on your own without guidance.

Does TrimDoc provide emergency care?

No. TrimDoc provides non-emergency telehealth services. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

Telehealth

How does a telehealth visit work?

You meet with your provider over secure video at your scheduled appointment time. No office visit or travel is required.

What do I need for my appointment?

A device with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a private space to discuss your health history.

Is telehealth as effective as an in-person visit for this type of care?

Telehealth allows a full clinical evaluation for most patients pursuing medical weight loss, but it has limitations. Your provider will tell you if your situation requires in-person care instead.

What if my internet connection drops during a visit?

Try to reconnect and rejoin the visit. If you're unable to reconnect, contact care@trimdoc.io to reschedule.

Medication

What medications does TrimDoc prescribe?

When clinically appropriate, TrimDoc providers may prescribe GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide. Whether medication is prescribed at all, and which one, is a clinical decision made during your evaluation.

How is medication delivered?

If a prescription is issued, it is sent electronically to a licensed pharmacy, which ships or dispenses the medication and bills you directly.

Can I choose between compounded and brand-name medication?

Your provider determines what is clinically appropriate and available for your specific prescription. Discuss your preferences with your provider during your consultation.

How does TrimDoc decide which medication is right for me?

Your provider reviews your health history, prior treatment response (if any), and goals, then determines whether semaglutide, tirzepatide, or no medication is appropriate. See how the two compare on the Tirzepatide page.

The initial consultation is $32, one-time.

How much is the ongoing membership?

The ongoing membership is $74/month, available only after your consultation and clinical approval.

What does the $74/month membership include?

The membership covers follow-up video visits, secure messaging with your care team, dose adjustment and titration support, prescription refill management, and ongoing physician oversight. It does not include medication cost.

When can I enroll in the membership?

Only after your consultation and clinical approval. It is not purchasable directly on the website.

Can I cancel my membership at any time?

Yes — email care@trimdoc.io to pause or cancel at any time.

Does the membership include medication?

No. Medication is always billed separately, directly by the dispensing pharmacy.

Prescription Process

How does TrimDoc decide whether to prescribe medication?

All prescribing decisions are made solely at the professional discretion of your licensed treating physician, based on clinical appropriateness, after your evaluation.

Does booking a consultation guarantee a prescription?

No. Completing intake and scheduling a consultation does not guarantee that a prescription will be issued.

How is my prescription sent to the pharmacy?

If prescribed, your provider sends it electronically to a licensed pharmacy, which then contacts you directly.

Can I request a specific medication?

You can share your preferences with your provider, but the final prescribing decision is a clinical one, made after reviewing your health history.

Travel

Can I use TrimDoc while traveling?

Availability depends on provider licensure and your location at the time of your visit. Confirm your specific situation with your care team before booking if you'll be traveling.

What if I move to a different state?

Contact care@trimdoc.io to let your care team know. Availability depends on provider licensure and patient location, which may affect your ongoing care.

Can I receive medication shipped to a different address?

Discuss shipping questions directly with your dispensing pharmacy once a prescription is issued.

Lifestyle

Do I need to change my diet while on treatment?

Providers typically recommend pairing medication with attention to nutrition. Your care team can discuss specifics for your situation.

Is exercise required during treatment?

Physical activity is generally considered part of a broader weight management plan. Discuss what's appropriate for you with your provider.

Will my provider give me nutrition guidance?

Your provider can discuss nutrition as part of your care — ask about this during your consultation.

Storage

How should I store my medication?

GLP-1 injectable medications generally require specific storage conditions. Follow the specific instructions provided with your prescription by your pharmacy. See Semaglutide or Tirzepatide for more detail.

Can I travel with my medication?

Follow your pharmacy's storage and transport instructions, and ask your care team if you have questions specific to travel.

What if my medication wasn’t stored properly?

Contact your pharmacy or your TrimDoc care team before using medication you suspect wasn't stored correctly.

Missed Doses

What should I do if I miss a dose?

Contact your TrimDoc care team or follow the instructions provided with your specific prescription.

Can I take a double dose to make up for a missed one?

Do not double up on doses without guidance from your provider or pharmacy.

Who do I contact about a missed dose?

Email care@trimdoc.io or follow the guidance provided with your prescription.

Stopping Medication

Can I stop treatment at any time?

Talk to your provider before stopping medication so they can help you plan for that transition.

What happens if I stop my medication?

Changes in weight and appetite can occur after stopping treatment. Your care team can discuss what to expect for your situation.

Do I need to tell my provider before stopping?

Yes — discuss any plan to stop medication with your provider first, rather than stopping on your own.
