Your First Medical Weight Loss Consultation
Not knowing what to expect can be the biggest barrier to booking a first appointment. This page walks through what to prepare, what happens during the visit, and what comes after — specifically for your very first consultation. It is educational information, not medical advice.
Choose your appointment time in Vagaro — you'll be asked to sign in or create a free account (Vagaro, Google, Facebook, or Apple) to hold your slot — then complete your secure $32 consultation payment. Your appointment is held as pending until payment is received. After paying, watch your email for confirmation and next steps. Already booked? Pay your $32 fee →
- What if I'm not eligible or no provider is available in my state?
- You'll be notified before any care is provided. If TrimDoc cancels your visit for this reason, your $32 consultation fee is fully refunded.
- Is the $74/month membership a subscription I could forget about?
- Cancel anytime by emailing care@trimdoc.io — no cancellation fees. Your membership stays active through the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
- Does insurance cover this?
- TrimDoc is self-pay: the $32 consultation and $74/month membership are billed directly, with transparent pricing and no insurance claims involved.
Before Your Appointment
It can help to have the following ready, though nothing here is required to book:
- A general sense of your weight-management history — prior approaches you've tried, if any, and how they went
- A list of current medications and supplements
- Any relevant health conditions, including ones that feel unrelated to weight
- Questions you want to ask your provider
- A private space with a stable internet connection for your video visit
What Happens During the Visit
Your provider will review your health history, ask about your goals, and discuss what options may be clinically appropriate for you. This is a real clinical evaluation — expect a genuine conversation, not a scripted intake form read back to you. You're welcome to ask questions throughout.
What Your Provider Will Ask About
- Your weight history and any prior weight-management attempts
- Current and past medical conditions
- Current medications, including over-the-counter and supplements
- Family medical history, including any history relevant to GLP-1 medication contraindications
- Your goals and what you're hoping treatment will help with
Answer as completely and honestly as you can, even about things that feel embarrassing or unrelated — your provider needs the full picture to make a sound clinical determination. See Who May Be Eligible for GLP-1 Therapy for more on how that determination works.
What Happens After the Visit
Your provider will communicate their clinical determination directly. If medication is prescribed, it's sent electronically to a licensed pharmacy, which contacts you to arrange fulfillment and billing. If medication isn't recommended at this time, your provider will explain their reasoning. Either outcome is a legitimate result of an honest evaluation — see How Physician-Supervised Telehealth Medical Weight Loss Works for what ongoing care looks like from there.
Tips for a Productive First Visit
- Write down your questions beforehand so you don't forget them in the moment
- Be specific about prior side effects or reactions to any medication, if applicable
- Mention anything that's changed recently in your health, even if it seems minor
- Ask your provider to clarify anything you don't understand — there's no such thing as a bad question in a clinical evaluation
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I’m nervous about my first visit?
That’s common. Your provider’s role is to understand your health and goals, not to judge you — coming with honest information matters more than feeling perfectly prepared.
What if I don’t have all my medical records?
Share what you know and remember as best you can. Your provider can work with the information you have and ask follow-up questions as needed.
Can someone else be with me during the visit?
Discuss this with your provider — let your care team know in advance if you’d like someone else present.
What if I decide during the visit that I’m not ready to proceed?
That’s your decision to make. Booking a consultation does not obligate you to start treatment.
Will I get a prescription at my first visit?
Only if your provider determines it’s clinically appropriate after your evaluation. Booking a consultation is a request for evaluation, not a guarantee of a prescription.
